Set limits before you deposit, not after
The single most effective habit is deciding in advance how much you'll deposit each week and how long you'll play in a session. Treat the number like a movie ticket โ once it's spent, the session is over, win or lose. This works because it removes in-session decisions, where most damaging behaviour happens.
A reasonable rule of thumb: never deposit more than you'd spend on a meal out in the same week. If a session is going badly, the worst thing you can do is deposit again to "chase". Walk away โ the next session will be there tomorrow.
Tools available on Roobet
- Deposit limits โ set a daily, weekly or monthly cap on how much you can deposit. Once set, increases require a 24-hour cool-off; decreases are instant.
- Session reminders โ periodic pop-ups showing time-in-session.
- Reality checks โ set time intervals for break reminders.
- Time-out (cooling-off period) โ temporarily lock your account for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
- Self-exclusion โ permanent or semi-permanent account closure. Once activated, the account cannot be reopened during the exclusion period.
All tools are available in your Roobet account settings under "Responsible Gambling". Use them before you need them.
Warning signs to watch for
Gambling becomes a problem when it stops being entertainment. Some of the early signs:
- Spending more than you can comfortably afford.
- Chasing losses by depositing more to "win back" what was lost.
- Hiding the time or money spent on gambling from family or friends.
- Borrowing money โ from friends, credit, or anywhere else โ to gamble.
- Feeling anxious, irritable, or low when not gambling.
- Cancelling plans or skipping responsibilities to play.
- Thinking about gambling more than you'd like to.
Any one of these is worth pausing on. Two or more is a strong sign to step back, set a self-exclusion period, and talk to a support service.
For friends and family
If you're worried about someone else's gambling, the support services above all offer confidential help for affected loved ones โ not just the gambler themselves. Approaching the conversation early, without judgement, is consistently the most effective intervention.
Our position
RoobetGuides is an affiliate site. We earn commission when readers sign up to Roobet. We also believe โ without any contradiction โ that gambling should always be discretionary entertainment with money you can afford to lose. We will never promote chasing losses, depositing beyond your means, or any "system" that claims to guarantee wins. There are no guaranteed wins.
If gambling stops being fun for you, please stop, take a break, and reach out to one of the services above.
